There have been reports of scammers using a jury or court scheme in Manitowoc County.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office states these scammers call people saying they have a judge-signed warrant to make the individual believe they have missed a nonexistent court appearance.
The scammers are also looking for a form of payment to settle the fictitious warrant.
The Sheriff’s Office also states these scammers are looking for your personal information and money while posing as local law enforcement or court staff.
The forms of payment they often ask for include cryptocurrency, gift cards, and cash.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds community members to be wary and urges people who believe they have been targeted in this scheme to contact local law enforcement.
