Lucille “Luci” M. Wallander, age 91, of Manitowoc, died on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Harbor View Assisted Living, Manitowoc.
Luci was born at home on December 13, 1932, in Rosecrans, Township of Cooperstown, daughter of the late Raymond and Agnes (Kubs) Sauer. She attended local area schools and was a 1950 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On December 2, 1950 Luci was married to Edward W. Wallander Jr. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2024. She assisted Ed on their hobby farm in the town of Manitowoc Rapids. Luci was a former member of St. Joseph Parish at Alverno and a current member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and in the past served the congregation as a Choir Member, Christian Women Society, Eucharistic Minister and a Proclaimer. She also taught RCIA and CCD. Luci enjoyed reading, sewing and embroidery. In the past she was a Girl Scout Leader, HCE and served as a Avon representative.
Survivors include her children and their spouses: Edward J. (Linda) Wallander III, Manitowoc, Karen (John) Fessler, Manitowoc, Dean (Linda) Wallander, Whitelaw, Mark Wallander, Mountain Home, AR, Chris (Carrie) Wallander, Manitowoc; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law include: Ann Flatley, NC, Jan (Dick) Szalewski, Manitowoc, one brother and sister-in-law: Andy (Linda) Sauer, KS, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Laura Braun, Manitowoc, Janice Wallander, AZ, Bob Brunner, AL, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond and Agnes Sauer; her husband: Edward W. Wallander Jr.; one daughter and son-in-law: Mary (Gary) Konarski; one infant son; one granddaughter: Jill Wallander; one daughter-in-law: Bette Wallander; one sister: Char Brunner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law include: Delores (Hal) Schuh, Marie (Joe) Johanek, Rita (Chuck) McKiel, Tony Braun, Mike Flatley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include: Mike (Pauline) Wallander, Bernie (Lois) Wallander, Robert (Elaine) Wallander, Tom Wallander, Al (Sue) Wallander; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Edward and Theresa Wallander Sr.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 8100 Brunner Road, Newton. The Rev. David Beaudry will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial of her cremated remains at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alverno. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
