Needed work on part of the Rahr-West Art Museum’s roof is done.
Executive Director Greg Vadney tells Seehafer News that the work to fix the back part where some of the art galleries was done in June and now everything is basically back to normal at the museum.
Vadney explained that the galleries were added in 1975 and 1986 and still had the original roofs from then, meaning the work was absolutely needed.
“We’re very happy with the results,” Vadney explained. “The roof work was completed in July. And we’re excited to have a much more secure Rahr-West Art Museum as far as the galleries are concerned.”
Vadney continues saying the roof also helps insulate the Rahr-West plus it’s higher up than before.
The portion of the roof that was fixed was leaking at some points, enough to where they had to close two of the galleries in June.
“We did so kind of incrementally,” he explained. “One gallery would be closed, and the second gallery was closed. And it did somewhat interrupt what we were able to showcase here at the Rahr-West in early June, but well worth it.”
The Rahr-West is now back to normal with all the galleries being open to the public.
The work was part of the city of Manitowoc’s 2024 budget which set aside about $205,000 for the roof reconstruction.
The city approved paying off the last of the payment during their monthly council meeting.
