Manitowoc Lincoln suffered another tough loss Friday night, with Ashwaubenon taking a 56-6 win over the Ships.
While the offense once again struggled, there were some bright spots.
Sophomore Running Back Jaquon Felton ran with an edge to him and ended up with 14 carries for 45 of the team’s 83 total yards.
Felton joined the team earlier in the week, so despite not having a ton of reps, Head Coach Evan Smith said he stepped up.
“I thought he played a good game tonight,” he told Damon Ryan in the postgame interview on 107.9 FM WOMT. “He came in, did exactly what I asked him to do, ran hard. He was about our biggest bright spot all night.”
Another silver lining in the dark cloud was Freshman Quarterback Kieran Hang, who came on late for Holden Woodfill and stood strong in the face of varsity football and made plays.
“I saw that kind of play in the freshman game last Monday, and it gave me all the confidence in the world to get them out there and put them on the field,” Coach Smith explained. “And you think the game would be too big for him? He looked me right in the face and said, ‘Coach, give me the play.’”
As for how the Ships rebound, Smith said, “I’m going to simplify, simplify, simplify.”
Manitowoc Lincoln will be back in action on Friday as they continue their stretch of four road games at Oshkosh North.
