A new, broad coalition has been created to protect Wisconsin’s lakes.
The groups coming together include Wisconsin Lakes, Wisconsin’s Green Fire, Lakes at Stake Wisconsin, Last Wilderness Alliance, and the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation.
This coalition is setting out to defend Wisconsin’s lakes from the adverse impacts of wake-enhanced boating.
These adverse impacts include the spread of invasive species, harm to fishing and tourism, and damage to lake properties. Studies have shown an outsized effect that these boats have on the environment and the coalition will use data from said studies to help guide their efforts.
“This coalition will be laser-focused on protecting Wisconsin’s lakes from the devastation done by these wake boats. Our organizations will stand shoulder to shoulder in protecting Wisconsin’s many lakes,” said Dan Butkus, President of Wisconsin Lakes.
Many other groups have signed on to support the coalition, including Walleyes for Tomorrow and Wisconsin Trout Unlimited, which feel wake boats are negatively affecting Wisconsin lakes and communities.
