The Valders Vikings travel to the Fox Valley tonight to meet the Zephyrs of St. Mary Catholic in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference Opener for both teams.
The 0 and 2 Vikings are a young team starting with only five seniors combined on both sides of the ball.
Austin Fischer is one of those who is averaging about 5 yards a carry through two games and who the Vikings have depended upon for leadership both on and off the field.
St. Mary Catholic replaced Two Rivers in the EWC this season and have split their first two games of the season.
Their victory came against Manawa last Friday night by the score of 30 to 0, and they are led by talented junior quarterback Maddox Dwyer.
The Zephyrs, like the Vikings, are young in a lot of areas.
This is also the Zephyrs’ second year returning to eleven-man football, after playing 8-man during the 2021 and 22 seasons.
Both Head Coaches, Austin Edge of Valders and Josh Young of St. Mary Catholic, are concerned of this being a short week of preparation but will have their teams ready to play tonight.
Kickoff from Zephyr Fields in Neenah is at 7:00 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. on 97.1 WCUB and CubRadio.com.
