The Manitowoc Public School District has named an interim superintendent.
Director of State and Federal Programs Lee Thennes was picked by the Manitowoc public school board last night to fill the role left by now-former Superintendent Jim Feil.
Board President Chris Able explains that Thennes is qualified to run the district.
“Thennes is fully licensed to be a superintendent,” Able explained.
“He has shown many of the leadership qualities we are looking for in a superintendent.”
Able also said that the board needed someone to have the superintendent role.
He described, “There was real concern among members of the board that we have some day-to-day clear leadership for the needs that can arise relatively quickly at a time within a district.”
Able didn’t go into details about those issues.
Thennes’s term will only go until July 2025, and he won’t be taking over immediately.
Able says the board must discuss what extra responsibilities Thennes would do as interim superintendent.
The contract could be approved by next month.
Jim Feil suddenly announced his resignation last month, and the board accepted it during a special meeting.
Feil said that it was time to go because he had done everything he needed to when he was hired as interim superintendent.
Able says the board will be looking for a full-time superintendent before the 2025-26 school year starts.
He hopes that person will be ready before July 1st.
