The Manitowoc Lincoln Varsity volleyball team is off to a solid start to the season.
They have an 82-win percentage and a record of 9-2.
The ships have swept 7 total teams this year out of the 11 matches played.
Head coach Mary Beth Dixon says the young team’s chemistry is positive, stating, “Starting and playing for sophomores. And I think those girls have invested a lot of time and have worked hard. I think some of the returners have also tried to push our younger kids coming in to be a little bit more invested.”
Although pleased with the performances so far this season, Coach Dixon discusses the few areas of the team game that need to be focused on.
She said, “We have things we have to work on. We have some great hitters. Our setters are trying to locate the ball a little better passing. Got to get a little better. And we need to serve aggressively, continuously on the court.”
While the Ships play well on the court, Coach Dixon is happy with the support they receive at home games off-court.
She explained, “We always love to have a great home crowd. I thought last night we had some really good student body section. They are always very much into the game. We’d love to get some more community members out there.”
Coach Dixon also expressed how important seniors are to their younger success by saying, “Seniors are really, really important. They are to be our leaders. Some are very good vocal leaders, and others of them learn to lead by example. You really need to have, I feel, both of those qualities.”
As the ships look to continue their season, they get ready to take on Divine Savior Holy Angels at 12:30 p.m. on September 14th at Lincoln High School to start their quad tournament, which also features Arrowhead and Fond du Lac.
