The Grand Chute Police Department has offered a health update on their K-9 Luka.
Luka began showing signs of a health emergency while working the night shift on August 25th and was brought to the BluePearl Pet Hospital by his handler Sergeant Weisenicht.
It was there that medical staff determined blood had accumulated around Luka’s heart.
A procedure was completed before Luka was stabilized and monitored overnight, however, the following day he was transferred to UW Veterinary Care.
After much testing, it was determined Luka had an abnormal blood vessel stemming from his heart due to a birth defect.
On August 29th, an extensive 10-hour corrective surgery was successfully performed, and Luka was on the road to recovery.
September 1st was a big step in that recovery as he was discharged to continue his recovery from home.
Grand Chute PD is confident that Luka will be able to return to work in the coming months but also note that the support shown for him in this hard time has been a big help.
