Manitowoc County’s Congressman is moving a bill closer to a vote on the US House floor.
Republican Congressman Glenn Grothman announced that he recently presented the Biodiversity Oversight Scaled-back And Fully Erased or BIOSAFE Act at the Natural Resources Committee meeting.
Grothman says the bill would stop the Biden Administration from having the Department of Interior Fish and Wildlife Service make changes that give the federal government more power in conservation decisions like hunting.
He highlighted the Wisconsin Conservation Congress and what they do for the state.
“Every year, they have hearings,” he stated. “They get things down to how are things going to be handled county by county. It’s been a delicate process lasting decades. I can’t believe anybody is going to be arrogant enough to think the federal government can stick its nose in here and do better than these local people.”
Grothman continues saying it would also be inappropriate for Washington bureaucrats to come in and override decisions made by Wisconsin citizens, hunters, fishermen, and local Refuge managers, but that is exactly what would happen if the Biden Administration’s proposed policy goes into effect.
He also says numerous groups have come out against the Department of Interior’s policy.
The bill was introduced in the US House of Representatives back in June.
