Eight students from the Random Lake School District were injured after an SUV crashed into a school bus.
The crash happened yesterday (September 16th) at County Road E and Jay Road in the Town of Fredonia in Ozaukee County.
When they arrived, Ozaukee County Sheriff’s said they found a 2018 Black Jeep Grand Cherokee with significant front-end damage in the roadway and the school bus resting on its passenger side in a ditch.
The initial investigation showed that the Jeep didn’t stop for a stop sign and traveled through the intersection, hitting the school bus.
The bus spun 180 degrees before it overturned.
36 students were evacuated on the bus, and eight were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The Jeep’s bus driver and occupants were also taken to the hospital.
The students’ injuries range from minor to severe, but none are considered life-threatening.
The Random Lake students who weren’t injured were picked up by their parents.
The Jeep driver was also given a ticket for failing to yield. The Ozaukee County Sheriff reminds drivers that it’s their responsibility to be aware of the road.
