Fire and Rescue rates have gone up in Manitowoc.
The Common Council approved rate increases for transportation, similar to what the city of Two Rivers did a couple of weeks ago.
The prices, while much higher than before, are both even for residents and non-residents.
The biggest increase is in ALS On Scene care, which went up from $300 for residents and $360 for nonresidents to an even $1,000.
Other rates varied but ranged between $500 for BLS On Scene Care and $1,400 for the ALS Base Rate.
City Council President Bill Schlei says the prices hadn’t been adjusted for about 10 years and needed to change.
The council also approved discussions about fire contracts with Manitowoc Rapids.
Public Safety Committee Chairman Tim Boldt says what was approved isn’t a contract for fire service, just approving a discussion.
The fire contracts have been a point of contention for some Manitowoc Rapids residents after the town board discussed having a portion of the town covered by the city of Manitowoc Fire Department.
Rockwood and Silver Creek Fire Departments have come out against the proposal, saying they fear they could shut down because of the contract change.
