The Town of Manitowoc Rapids is sticking with their current fire departments.
During an information meeting last night, the town decided to resign its fire contracts with the Silver Creek and Rockwood Fire Departments after hundreds of concerned residents and the fire departments themselves scrutinized them.
The issue started after the town wanted to contract with the city of Manitowoc for certain areas.
Manitowoc Fire Chief Todd Blaser explained to Seehafer News last week that it would be a couple of areas around the town.
At this month’s town board meeting, members of the public voiced their disapproval of the fire contract change because they believed the city wouldn’t be able to do enough and that the issue wasn’t brought up with them.
Silver Creek and Rockwood Fire released another press release before last night’s (September 18th) meeting, thanking the community for their outpouring of support.
Residents and firefighters again spoke against the board for wanting to contract with someone else and advocated for Silver Creek and Rockwood to remain as the fire departments that cover the town.
The next town board meeting is set for October 9th.
