Students in the Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) earned over $2 million in free college credit over the past year.
The school district’s partnership with Lakeland University allows students to complete college coursework free of cost while in high school.
Additionally, this partnership provides students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously through the Concurrent Academic Progress Program (CAPP).
Last year was the program’s first year, and almost 900 students completed over 5,000 college credits.
Furthermore, the program allowed the average SASD student to earn roughly six college credits, while just under 100 students were able to complete an entire college semester.
SASD Superintendent Jake Konrath says, “This partnership ensures that all students who pass a dual-credit class can earn college credit regardless of their current financial situation.”
Another aspect of this agreement also allows SASD teachers to take up to 18 credits as they pursue professional development and Master of Education degrees.
While this partnership is entering just its second year, it is already proving beneficial for students and teachers alike.
