This week is National Farm Safety and Health Week.
It’s a week to remember to be safe around farm equipment that’s sharing a road while you drive.
But it’s also important for farmers who do their work around heavy machinery every day.
Manitowoc County Ag Educator Angie Ulness explained during her weekly update that you shouldn’t learn safety by accident.
“Watch for those slow-moving vehicle signs,” she stated. “Do not pass farm equipment, especially when they start slowing down. You have to be making aware of your surroundings if there’s a driveway coming up on the left either into a field or into a farm.”
Ulness continues saying that everyone wants to get home safely, including those driving the farm equipment.
She reminds producers to check before they turn and to use their lights at night.
Other agriculturally based groups focused on health and wellness for farmers, working in confined spaces, and reporting ag related injuries.
