After sending three players to the state tournament last year the Manitowoc Lincoln girls tennis team is looking to continue that success this season.
Despite a loss to De Pere Thursday, the Head coach, Stephanie Henschel, says that she is happy with the results of the team’s play style so far and wants to keep the intensity as high as possible.
“It’s all about keeping the intensity, making sure that they’re always playing up to their potential and not playing down to their opponent,” she explained.
Coach Henschel highlighted some of the girls who have stepped up to take leadership roles.
“Taylor Peterson and Jordan Pop have been really taking that leadership role, as well as as well as Riley Blaser and Bradley Kowalski,” she said. “We have a large team. Therefore, we need more kids to take leadership roles.”
As the Ships prepare to take on Bay Port next week, Coach Henschel says her singles competitors need to focus on crashing the net and keeping their score while the doubles team’s big focus needs to be on communication.
“My doubles teams, I want them communicating more,” Coach Henschel noted. “Sometimes we don’t communicate between points really that well, especially when we get down and there’s going to be points that we get down.”
The ships will take on the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday before hosting Green Bay Preble on Thursday.
