Travis King, a former soldier from Racine, has been sentenced after fleeing to North Korea last year.
He pleaded guilty to desertion and other charges during a military trial on Friday.
The judge gave him a sentence of time served and a dishonorable discharge.
King fled to North Korea to avoid returning to the U.S. following a fight he was involved in while stationed in South Korea.
He was detained in North Korea for several months before being repatriated.
Since then, he has remained in military custody in Texas.
