Authorities have made an arrest in a nearly 40-year-old cold case in Tomah.
Yesterday, law enforcement from Monroe, Vernon, and La Crosse counties announced the apprehension of a suspect in the 1985 murder of a University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student.
Terry Dolowy’s body was found decapitated and burned in February 1985, and the case remained unsolved until investigators recently identified a DNA match to a suspect still residing in Tomah.
Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 60-year-old Michael Popp, who was 21 at the time and worked as a truck driver.
While officials confirm they have additional evidence beyond the DNA, they have not disclosed details.
Popp is currently in custody, with bail set at one million dollars.
