An appellate court has upheld the conviction of a child neglect case from Manitowoc County.
The appeal, filed by Jamie Schrank was asking the court to review several issues from her 2018 conviction for the death of a 3-year-old child in her care.
According to documents, the appellate court ruled that there was an ample amount of evidence to convict Schrank, that her lawyer’s assistance would not be considered ineffective, and that the two cases she was charged with could be joined together.
The ruling also states, “Because we conclude that there would be no arguable merit to any issue that could be raised on appeal, the judgments and order of the circuit court are summarily affirmed.”
Schrank was convicted on two counts of chronic child neglect, repeated acts of child abuse, and possession of meth after the 3-year-old child in her care died while being treated for external and internal injuries.
Schrank is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
She’s currently in the Taycheedah Correctional Facility in Fond du Lac.
