Several state agencies are requesting significant funding increases in Governor Tony Evers’ new two-year budget proposal.
According to a report from the Institute for Reforming Government, the largest request is for $4 billion from the Department of Health Services, which is tied to a Medicaid expansion that could bring additional federal funds.
The University of Wisconsin is seeking nearly $1 billion, and the Department of Corrections is asking for an additional $500 million.
Governor Evers has previously requested similar budget increases, but Republican lawmakers have repeatedly denied those proposals.
