The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is encouraging hunters to mentor and introduce deer hunting to the next generation.
Wisconsin’s Youth Deer Hunt will take place statewide on October 5th and 6th, aiming to educate and interest kids in the long tradition of deer hunting.
The Youth Deer Hunt takes place before the beginning of regular gun deer season to allow the young hunters to learn at a time when deer are less pressured.
Children 15 and younger are eligible to participate with or without a hunter education certification.
Hunting mentors accompanying a youth hunter must be 18 years of age.
Hunters under 11 years old must be accompanied by a mentor who is a hunter education graduate and a current hunter license holder.
As always with any hunting season, the DNR stresses safety when handling firearms.
