A Mexican National is facing prison time for trafficking cocaine and possession of firearms.
An announcement from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office announced that U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin Gregory Haanstad and Judge William Griesbach sentenced 41-year-old Jose Resendiz-Gomez to five years in prison after Resendiz-Gomez pleaded guilty in court.
According to court documents, in July 2023, agents with the Manitowoc County Drug Task Force arranged to make controlled buys of cocaine from Resendiz-Gomez who was a previously convicted felon.
He was arrested in August last year after a traffic stop when he was returning from Illinois, having purchased another 600 grams of cocaine to distribute in Manitowoc.
At sentencing, Judge Griesbach stressed that Resendiz-Gomez’s months’ long cocaine trafficking and unlawful firearm possession were serious offenses which means there will be significant punishment.
After Resendiz-Gomez finishes his sentence, he will be deported back to Mexico.
