The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced its volunteer statistics for 2023.
The State Natural Area (SNA) Volunteer Annual Report has been released, and hundreds of hours have been logged at locations in the area.
The SNA Annual Report showcases the work done to aid the DNR in improving, maintaining, and preserving natural areas, most of which are open to the public.
Last year, over 8,400 volunteer hours were logged in Wisconsin, with 483 being logged in Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, and Winnebago Counties.
Thirteen volunteers put in 144 hours of work at Haskell Noyes Woods, while seven more logged 33 hours at Spruce Lake Bog in Fond du Lac County.
At Kohler Park Dunes, 93 hours of volunteer work was completed in Sheboygan County by nine individuals.
Winnebago County saw just two volunteers log an impressive 213 hours of work on the Oshkosh-Larsen Pine Trail.
According to the DNR, these SNAs are home to 90 percent of the state’s rare plant species and 75 percent of the rare wildlife.
