A Green Bay man will spend six and half years in prison for a crash that killed two of his family members on Christmas Day last year.
That was the sentence to 39-year-old Philip Slezewski during his court appearance this (September 30th) afternoon. 38-year-old Heather Arcaro-Slezewski, who was Philip’s wife, and his mother 71-year-old Clarice Slezewski were killed in a two-vehicle crash after Philip, who was driving, rear-ended another SUV and caused both to spin out on I-43 last Christmas.
The SUV he was driving flipped over while the other vehicle went into a ditch on the other side of the interstate.
After the crash, drugs were found to be in Philip’s bloodstream including cocaine and marijuana.
Before Slezewski was sentenced, family and friends of the victims spoke against him saying he was manipulative and lied about why he moved to Green Bay from Illinois.
The family also claimed he wasn’t sorry for his actions after the crash and didn’t show sympathy.
Supporters over Zoom spoke in favor of Slezewski saying he was a good father and cared about his wife and family.
District Attorney Jacalyn LeBre asked for 15 to 20 years in prison while Philip’s attorney asked for a minimum of five years.
Slezewski himself did apologize to the court and the family he said he hurt and that he takes responsibility for his actions.
Judge Robert Dewane explained that it was painfully clear that there were issues between the victims and the defense that couldn’t be changed.
He also said that everyone needed to come to grips with the law if they wanted to accept the outcome.
Slezewski’s sentence also includes extended supervision. Other counts were dismissed but read into the record.
