A local organization is celebrating a major milestone this year.
During a recent episode of the Hello Lakeshore Podcast, Katrina Pionek from Manitowoc County 4H revealed that they are celebrating 100 years of existence.
The county’s first club, the Liberty Go Getters, was founded in 1924.
“We were able to celebrate 100 years at the County Fair this year,” Pionek explained.
“(We had) some scrap books out and kind of relived those memories. We had scrapbooks all the way back to 1947”
Those books contained photos of 4H projects throughout the years, families that have been involved for generations, and the evolution of farming over the past century.
Pionek noted that Manitowoc County 4H aims to get people of all ages excited about agriculture and maybe get some young people involved who mightn’t have been before.
“4H does serve kindergarten through, actually, grade 13, which is one year after high school,” she explained.
“A lot of members have do animals, however you do not need to.”
