Brown County will be hosting an event to offer an update on the state of literacy in the county.
The event will take place today (October 1st) at 11:15 a.m. at the Brown County East Branch Library, led by Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and Achieve Brown County Executive Director Sarah Beckman.
Literacy is the ability to communicate and understand through reading, writing, speaking, listening, and visual representations.
In 2022, the Reading Success Summit was held in the county, and it revealed an impending literacy crisis could be on the horizon.
In response, a community-wide plan to improve reading proficiency in the third grade was created called Reading for the Future.
This event will showcase the work done, literacy improvements made, and what local groups have played a part in making a change.
More information on the event and the Reading for the Future program can be found online at achievebrowncounty.org/reading-for-the-future.
