October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Fond du Lac Police Department is doing its part.
Tomorrow (October 4th), the department will be launching its new Domestic Violence Intervention Police Specialist position, with Officer Anthony Schulget being the first to hold the title.
This new position will be dedicated to addressing the sensitive and complex needs of those affected by domestic violence.
It was designed to provide an extensive support system for victims, ensuring they receive the care, resources, and help needed to hold offenders accountable.
On the matter, Fond du Lac Chief of Police Aaron Goldstein said, “I felt it was critical to increase our support and resources to all survivors and strengthen efforts to prevent and prosecute domestic violence.”
In addition to helping victims after a domestic violence incident, the Domestic Violence Intervention Police Specialist is also responsible for investigating domestic abuse cases, stalking, order of protection violations, and instances when a perpetrator is a current or former partner or spouse.
Chief Goldstein also noted, “Our commitment to addressing domestic violence is unwavering, and the Domestic Violence Intervention Police Specialist is at the forefront of this mission.”
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, you can contact Officer Schulget at 920-322-3755.
