Drones and K9s are to thank for catching two individuals fleeing from police.
An officer from the Menasha Police Department spotted a suspicious vehicle hiding in a concealed area in the early morning hours of October 1st.
The officer approached the vehicle, suspecting drug-related behavior to be taking place, but the driver of the vehicle fled.
This began a brief police chase, which was later called off.
Not long after, officers with the Appleton Police Department found the vehicle, which had been crashed and abandoned.
Appleton PD quickly deployed two drones for an aerial search, and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s K9 team was deployed to track the suspects on foot.
The K9 units swiftly located the passenger, and thanks to the drones, the driver was also tracked down.
Both individuals are now in custody thanks to a multi-agency effort leading to their arrest.
The Menasha Police Department thanked the Appleton Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Calumet County Sheriff’s Office for their teamwork in tracking down the fleeing suspects.
