The Manitowoc Lincoln ship have won their first game of the year at home against green bay west.
After losing each game by a substantial margin, the ships were ready for a change. And it was a change they made when the defense returned a fumble for a touchdown, and Marius Beasly returned a punt and a kick off both for touchdowns.
Head Coach Evan Smith said on a recent episode of his On The Line Podcast it was nice for the team to get the monkey off their back.
“(It was good) to watch the team be competitive for four quarters, (and) play hard,” he said. “Defense played a really good game. Offensively, (we had) a new guy pulling the trigger for his first varsity start.”
Smith and the team were also pleased with the showing at the game and shows how the team is loved by the people.
“The amount of people that showed up to watch us play as an 0-5 football team lets you know that they want success and they want a winner around here,” he said. “If you give them a winner, they’re going to show up. They’re going to show up in droves.”
The Ships are in the zone getting geared up for the homecoming game against Menasha.
Smith says the team needs to anchor down to prepare for the game with all of the homecoming spirit around Lincoln that could be a distraction.
He explained that he told the players, “When we’re on the practice field, when we’re watching film, whatever it is, we are locked in, and we got to make sure we’re on top of what we’re doing at those.”
Coverage of the homecoming game against the Menasha Bluejays will begin at 12:40 this Saturday (October 5th) on 107.9 FM WOMT and at WOMTRaido.com.
