The Manitowoc Police Department is hosting an old classic this weekend.
The Police Chase fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, October 12th.
The 4-mile run/walk and 1.5-mile dog walk will commence and conclude at the Silver Creek Park Field House, 3001 S. 10th St. at 9:00 AM, rain or shine.
Manitowoc Assistant Police Chief Jason Freiboth says the race started in 2003, but the COVID-19 pandemic stopped it.
Now, with Manitowoc Police wanting to raise money for a new Police K9 statue, the race is back.
“We wanted to be good stewards of the taxpayer’s money,” Freiboth explained. “So, we didn’t want to use any budgeted money for this project. We really wanted to fundraise the entire cost of the project.”
The route will traverse city parks, grass and gravel trails, and a serene residential neighborhood offering a stunning view of Lake Michigan.
All dogs participating in the event must vaccinated for rabies and owners must keep their k9 on a leash and clean up after them.
The price for both the 4 mile and 1.5 mile races are $35.
There is no additional fee for dog participation.
