A new mocktail bar and bookstore is coming to Downtown Manitowoc.
The Nook Lounge and Bookstore hopes to bring a new concept to the community: combining a love of books with good-tasting, non-alcoholic drinks.
The co-owners, Lily Schuette and Jessica Nicholson, took a break from renovations at the building just north of the Manitowoc River to speak with Seehafer News.
Schuette said they wanted to bring a new social concept to the Clipper City.
“There are bars everywhere,” she explained. “You can go into any restaurant and get a drink, but where can you go where you don’t feel tempted or feel like you have to have a drink?”
As for Nicholson, she spoke about how it feels to be two young woman business owners in the community.
“I think it’s awesome. I’m very excited and proud of how far we’ve come already and of the steps we’re taking to make this happen,” she said.
The two also told us that The Nook will be more than just a spot for craft mocktails and reading.
They will be looking forward to holding open mic nights, AA meetings, and book clubs, amongst many other fun and socially engaging activities for the community.
As for the menu, Nicholson has taken her 10-plus years as a bartender as inspiration to craft delicious, signature drinks such as the Berry Mint Mule and the Pink Lady Lemonade.
However, with their “mix your elixir” menu, guests will have the chance to put their own spin on any mocktail they like.
While an exact date for a grand opening has yet to be confirmed, Schuette and Nicholson hope to open The Nook in early December before the holidays.
