Police in Menasha arrested a man armed with a large samurai sword.
The Menasha Police Department responded to an alarm at 7:21 a.m. yesterday (October 13th) at a business in the 1600 block of Appleton Road.
Officers arriving on the scene observed broken glass and a man inside wielding a large samurai sword.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man from Menasha, would not cooperate with law enforcement, and additional agencies were requested to assist.
SWAT negotiators attempted to reason with the man for hours; however, their efforts were unsuccessful.
He continued to arm himself with the sword and destroy property in the business.
Authorities were left with no choice and deployed a K9 unit and subdued the 34-year-old.
He was taken into custody and has been referred on charges of failure to comply, criminal damage to property, burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon, and bail jumping.
Menasha PD thanked the Wisconsin State Patrol, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, and Neenah, Fox Crossing, and Appleton Police Departments for their assistance in the incident.
