The Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers Girls’ Volleyball team added to its impressive resume Monday night when it learned it received the number one seed in its Division Four bracket for the upcoming WIAA Girls’ Volleyball Tournament, which starts October 22nd.
Head Coach Lacey Behnke broke the news on Monday night on WOMT Sports Talk from Salute to Everyone in Manitowoc.
Her team didn’t know where they stood before the show.
Behnke says being seeded ahead of Living Word Lutheran, who held the top ranking in the wissports.net coaches’ poll most of the year, is a testament to the girl’s dedication and hard work.
“They give up a lot of stuff, including hanging out with their friends and family time, to work hard at the sport they love. For them to receive the one seed is a testament to all the hard work and dedication they put in to succeed at their craft.”
The Lancers have already racked up quite an impressive resume this season.
They have won the Big East Conference Red Division Title, won 28 matches to date, and, of course, received the top seed in their tournament bracket.
Senior Middle Hitter Grace Fictum says “Lancer Nation” has been integral to this year’s success.
“It’s where we get a lot of our energy. When you have all your friends, siblings, and the whole school cheering you on, it helps a lot.
Even when you don’t think they’ll be there for long road trips, they show up, and it pumps us up and helps us perform well.”
Sophomore Ava Steubs on how far they can go this postseason.
“I believe with our coaching and positive mental approach going into every match, we can make it to state and potentially win if that’s God’s plan for us. We can go far if we stick to our training and the overall process.”
The Lancers receive an opening round bye and open postseason play at home Thursday October 24th a 7 p.m.
