The man charged with killing his cellmate at the Green Bay Correctional Institute has entered an insanity plea.
WBAY reports that 24-year-old Jackson Vogel was in a Brown County court this morning (October 15th) during an arraignment hearing.
Vogel allegedly killed his cellmate, 19-year-old Micah Laureano, because of his race and sexual orientation.
Laureano was found strangled after a guard noticed something in the cell he and Vogel shared.
Vogel is already in prison for an attempted homicide case in Manitowoc County after he was convicted of stabbing a family member in Two Rivers.
Vogel is scheduled to be back in court in January.
If he’s convicted, a jury would have to determine what his mental state was during the killing.
If they find him sane, Vogel will stay in prison.
If he is found to have a mental condition, he will go to psychiatric care.
