The WIAA has handed Howards Grove High School sanctions.
WFRV reports that the sanctions relate to a violation the school made during a transfer waiver request for a student.
The WIAA ruled that members of the staff and others not related to the school played an influential role in a student athlete’s attendance at Howards Grove.
The sanctions pertain to the girls’ varsity volleyball team, and they came down before finding out their seed and schedule for the playoffs.
As a result of the sanctions, the School District of Howards Grove has requested minimal impact on the student-athletes, in this case, the volleyball team, for actions that were not in their control.
Howards Grove has also said they are not at liberty to discuss any sanctions taken on employees for the role they played.
While the exact nature of the sanctions and how they will affect the volleyball program have yet to be confirmed, they loom large ahead of their playoff matchup next week against Notre Dame.
