The Manitowoc Police Department is going to be on more of a lookout for people who aren’t wearing seat belts and are driving impaired.
The department announced that in cooperation with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and Two Rivers Police, more officers will be deployed from now until September 2025 because of some state grants.
Last year in Manitowoc County, there were 1,399 vehicle crashes, which resulted in 442 injuries, 35 that were serious.
Fourteen people also died because of a crash in Manitowoc County last year.
129 drivers were impaired during those crashes, while 103 were not wearing a seat belt.
Manitowoc Police remind motorists to always buckle up and never drive while impaired.
