Manitowoc County has been awarded millions to make improvements on Interstate 43.
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced that the county has been awarded $12.5 million to improve public safety and make infrastructure improvements along I-43.
The project will take place between the City of Manitowoc and Green Bay, a corridor of I-43 that the Wisconsin DOT states is used by over 22,000 motorists every day.
Rest Areas 51 Maribel and 52 Denmark will be replaced along the interstate to upgrade the insufficient parking, deteriorating pavement, and undersized facilities at both locations which are now 44 years old.
New comfort buildings, maintenance garages, and expanded parking for cars and semi-trucks will also be built at both rest areas.
On the current state of the rest stops, Senator Baldwin said, “After decades of heavy use, the outdated and deteriorating infrastructure isn’t up to par.”
The $12.5 million in funding for this project comes directly from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
