Speed limit changes are coming to some streets in Manitowoc.
The Common Council approved an ordinance Monday to make changes to some speed limits around the city.
The speed limit for Clipper Driver from South 41st to Custer Street will go down from 35 mph to 30, while Johnston Drive from Albert Drive north to the city limits will go up from 25 mph to 35 mph.
North Rapids Road will now be 35 mph throughout.
Speed limit changes are also coming to Viebahn Street, which will be down from 45 mph to 35 mph from South 10th to South 26th Street but then go back up to 45 mph after that.
The changes come after the city’s Public Safety Committee set up a subcommittee to discuss inconsistencies in speed limits throughout the city.
According to city documents, their findings showed that speed limits around the city were universally consistent.
The subcommittee considered some factors when deciding on the changes, such as the presence of sidewalks, driveways, a school, and others.
