The Manitowoc Lincoln girls volleyball team is once again gearing up for a state title run.
The Ships are on a two match win streak to end the regular season as they took down FRCC rivals Green Bay Preble and De Pere while only losing a single set.
Head Coach Mary Beth Dixon praised her seniors for all of their hard work this season, helping get her squad to this point.
“Maddie has helped out during the summer. Grace Hopper has helped out during the summer, Page…Ava. They’ve all helped out,” Coach Dixon explained. “That really brings the team, which is very young this year, to that next level.”
Speaking of seniors, Maddie Johnson tells Seehafer News that she hopes she can help keep the younger players calm and relaxed through her experience.
“Just like being there for them through everything, helping them, and knowing that it’s okay to make mistakes, it’s just how you bounce back afterwards that truly matters,” she said. “So just like being by their side and pushing them to better themselves and the team for the next play to come.”
Coach Dixon is confident in her team heading into tonight’s matchup with West Bend East, but she tells us they have to play like they are capable of playing.
“That’s something they’ve heard all year,” Dixon explained. “We’ve had a few hiccups along the way where we haven’t maybe played to our ability. We’ve played some really good matches and and still have come out with a loss. So they know they’re capable of playing at that higher level. We just need to do that for whatever it takes, three or five subs to get the win.”
The #4 seeded Ships will be hosting 13th ranked Suns at 7:00 this evening in the JFK Fieldhouse for their regional semifinal match.
