Manitowoc Public Utilities wants to make sure customers are paying their bills.
MPU Communications Manager Jennie Nelson says it’s because the Winter Disconnection Moratorium begins this Friday (November 1st).
While state law prohibits utilities from disconnecting essential services to residential customers during the period, they are not required to be restored prior to the moratorium without appropriate arrangements in place.
MPU says while they urge past dues to be paid, customers can get some help from the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program or WHEAP.
Eligible customers have to have a gross income for the last month that is less than the federal income level guidelines.
More information about the moratorium and WHEAP can be found on MPU’s website.
