The WIAA Girls Volleyball Tournament continues tonight with sectional semifinals in all five divisions.
In Division Four, Manitowoc Lutheran hosts Living Word Lutheran (Jackson) in what many are calling the “de facto” state championship match.
The Lancers have a record of 34 and 7 and are ranked second in the state in the wissports.net coaches’ poll, while the Timberwolves are the top-ranked team in Division Four, with a record of 28 wins and four losses.
The Lancers get home court as they were the top seed in their bracket, one spot ahead of Living Word Lutheran.
The winner will advance to the sectional final on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Kohler against either Kenosha Christian Life or Heritage Christian (New Berlin).
The Valders Vikings are also hosting a Sectional Semifinal match in Division Three.
The top-seeded Vikings, with a record of 31 and 9, host The Rockets of Cedar Grove-Belgium, who come to Valders with a record of 24 and 8.
The winner advances to meet either Bonduel or Oconto Saturday night in Brillion for a trip to state at The Resch Center in Ashwaubenon next week.
Other matches of local and area interest include those in Division Five, where top-seed Sheboygan Christian hosts Central Wisconsin Christian (Waupun), and Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran travels to Wausau to battle Newman Catholic.
In Division Two, Luxemburg Casco hosts Freedom.
Division One matches include Kimberly hosting Xavier (Appleton), Kaukauna traveling to Bayport, and Oshkosh West hitting the road to battle The Slinger Rockets. All matches begin at 7 p.m.
