The Christmas holiday season is right around the corner and the law enforcement officers and public safety staff members in Manitowoc County are preparing for the 19th Annual Shop with a Cop event.
The program has grown immensely over the years from when it was first started by Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office employees, Kurk and Chris Bessler who funded the program on their own.
As the program has grown and been recognized by other officers, citizens, and nearby businesses, they’ve helped do their part and donate to the cause to make it a bigger and better event for the children.
Shop with a Cop is a non-profit event that gives children who come from families with economic hardships the Christmas experience they deserve.
The officers and children travel in a group to a local store; the children get paired with a local police officer who provides part of the donated money for the children to shop for Christmas presents for their families and themselves.
After the gifts are purchased, they all head to the Silver Creek Fieldhouse.
The presents they purchased then get wrapped and everyone gets pizza and snacks before the children receive a present and visit from Santa.
Anyone is welcome to donate prior to Friday, November 22nd, the event is on Thursday, December 5th. For further questions call (920) 686-6577.
