The longtime Race Director for the HFM/Froedtert Maritime Marathon has stepped down.
Dave Nickels tells SeehaferNews.com that due to health concerns, he will not be organizing this year’s race.
Nickels, who was a member of the original group that started the race, has served as race director since the first competition in 2012.
Since its inception, over $200,000 has been distributed to needy organizations in the Lakeshore from proceeds of the event which has drawn thousands of runners to Manitowoc from across the country.
In his statement, Nickles thanked “the many volunteers, the Cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers, the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Dept. and the various medical personnel that have helped make this event happen.”
Curt Brey and Mike Cavanaugh have taken over as Co-Directors for the 2025 iteration, which will be held on Sunday, June 1st.
