The Brown County Sheriff’s Office warns community members of another scam.
The most recent scam involves a false order of arrest letter being mailed or emailed to victims.
The order of arrest will include the victim’s name, approval from the Clerk of Court Sandra Berrios, and a fraudulent signature from Judge Chad Kirkman.
The letter states that a warrant is out for the victim’s arrest for failure to appear for jury duty, a felony offense.
Scammers also attempted to get victims to pay a bail fee of $8,500 in the letter.
The order of arrest is made to appear believable, including information from the Brown County Courthouse and the Sheriff’s Office, but does include critical typos, which help in proving it to be the work of scammers.
