The holiday season is just around the corner, which means the Salvation Army Manitowoc County will be putting out their Red Kettles.
Captain Johnthan Tomayo explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program that the goal is to raise $150,000 this year.
“Those funds stay here in Manitowoc County to help families all across,” he explained. “Whether it’s toys or food because we have a food pantry that we serve food out of.”
Bell ringers will be out until December 24th but won’t ring on Sunday’s or Thanksgiving.
This year’s the Salvation Army will start ringing at Festival Foods, Pick N’ Save, and both Piggly Wiggly stores, Rob’s Family Market, and Hobby Lobby.
Bell ringers will be in the bigger box stores like Walmart later this month.
With all the Red Kettles, Tomayo says the Salvation Army needs a lot of volunteers.
“Unfortunately, not all the times ever fill up,” he explained. “And so, we definitely need people to come and help. Because it’s been proven that if it’s an unmanned kettle, people don’t give.”

The money from the kettles goes back to the Salvation Army Manitowoc County so they can continue their services.
