The City of Manitowoc has received millions in funding to improve drinking water quality.
Governor Tony Evers, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, and the Wisconsin DNR announced yesterday (November 4th) that Manitowoc will receive more than $5.5 million via the Safe Drinking Water Program (SDWLP).
Manitowoc has been awarded the funding for lead service line replacement. $5,494,800 of the funding is for lead service line principal forgiveness, and the remainder comes through a loan with a 0.25 percent interest rate.
Manitowoc is one of 86 municipalities in Wisconsin to receive over $273 million in funding to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water.
“All Wisconsin homes, schools, and businesses should trust that the water coming out of their faucets is safe to drink, and these funds will help our families get that peace of mind,” said Senator Baldwin.
The funding will help municipalities construct necessary water infrastructure projects while addressing emerging contaminants such as PFAS.
