The perception of early absentee voting has changed around the country and locally.
Online reports indicate that an estimated 76.4 million votes were cast either via the mail or in person ahead of election day, and the split between parties is very even.
In Wisconsin, nearly 1.5 million votes were cast ahead of the election, while locally, Manitowoc City Clerk Mackenzie Reed reports the most absentee votes in the Clipper City’s history.
“So far, right around 5000 folks have participated in in-person absentee voting in the city of Manitowoc.”
And that doesn’t include the number of mail-in ballots requested.
In Two Rivers, 2,912 votes were cast, including both in-person and mail-in ballots.
There was some confusion for voters, as many had gone to their polling location to absentee vote instead of City Hall, where they were supposed to. Reed says they have a plan for next election to try to eliminate those issues.
“Going forward, we can try to increase the frequency in which we’re communicating that information. But we did try to hit as many different channels as possible to get that information out to folks.”
The polls will remain open until 8:00 tonight.
As per state law, if you are in line at 8:00, you will still be allowed to vote.
