After what could be seen as an uphill battle, Democrats tried to campaign across Manitowoc County and northeast Wisconsin.
Manitowoc County Party Chairman Jim Hollahan spoke to SeehaferNews.com before the election, explaining what had been done during his first year as chair.
“We’ve established a full-time office,” he explained. “We raised money to do that. Built the membership. It’s been good, it’s been challenging.”
Some challenges, according to Hollahan, included getting out and talking to voters, but it was worth doing in the end because of the conversations he had.
He said that over 2,000 doors were knocked on around the county.
Democrat John Zarbano challenged Glenn Grothman for the sixth congressional district seat and while it looks like he won’t be winning, he explained that when he knocked on doors, voters told him they are tired of the divisive rhetoric in Washington.
“They want things done,” he stated. “They’re tired of the talking, they’re tired of the screaming, they’re tired of the hate, anger, and rage. They want government and they want problems solved.”
While it looks like Republicans won at the national level, statewide, more Democrats seem to have picked up seats in the Wisconsin Assembly then in years past and flipped some districts as well.
District maps were redrawn earlier this year after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that maps drawn by Republicans were not constitutional.
