The Manitowoc Lutheran new gym is nearly complete.
The gym has been in construction for over a year.
The old gym has caused problems, especially during basketball season, when the student-athletes were staying until 8:30 or 9:00 p.m.
Kevin Buch, the MLHS Director of Mission Advancement, says, “It will allow for better practices and a better game day experience.”
Communications Director Paul Durke tells SeehaferNews.com he is excited to see the project all coming together.
“The students are really, really antsy and anxious to get in there,” he revealed. “The basketball players are really excited to get games in there. So it’s a lot of excitement from everyone who’s been involved in this whole process.”
Buch says the new building will be a double-stall gym so they can run two sports events side by side with one main court.
With the new court come some new modifications to the floor.
“It has a cushion underneath the first layer of wood,” Buch noted. “There’s some really solid rubber feet under the first layer of wood. Then, there’s a second layer of wood that goes in the opposite direction layer. The third layer is the narrow maple planks and as you walk on it, you can really feel a nice push. So I think it’s going to be really good for the players.”
With everyone excited to get a brand new athletic facility the high school will be holding an open house where everyone in the community is welcome to tour the school and the new gym.
“We’re going to have an open house…open to anybody, who wants to in the community come in and see our new gym,” Buch explained, “It’s exciting. We’re really looking forward to it.”
The facility is expected to be practice ready once the floor is finished and games are hoped to be played this year.
