The Sheboygan County Food Bank’s Food for Thought for Children is helping feed children this school year.
The Food for Thought for Kids program is dedicated to supporting children facing hunger.
In Sheboygan County, the food bank has partnered with 26 local schools to ensure students have available, healthy foods to eat on weekends.
This program fills the gaps between FoodShare and federally funded school breakfast and lunch programs while kids are not in school.
They support hundreds of local children by distributing bags of ten nutritious items, such as fresh fruit, to take home on Fridays as part of the program.
Studies show that children struggling with hunger have a harder time focusing in school, are likely to fall behind academically, and become at risk for illness.
The Sheboygan County Food Bank and its Food for Thought for Kids program aims to eliminate this.
Elementary schools this program affects include but are not limited to Oostburg, Sheboygan Falls, and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah.
